Mission: Protect the health and safety of Kent County citizens from the effects of manmade and
naturally occurring public health emergencies.
To carry out this mission, the Kent County Health Department has developed plans in cooperation
with other county, state and federal agencies to mitigate or lessen the effects of, prepare for, respond
to and recover from a public health emergency.
Public health emergencies may include communicable diseases or diseases that spread from person
to person (flu), natural events (hurricanes or tornadoes, which may cause water contamination) and
intentional acts (spreading bacteria, viruses or natural toxins that cause sickness or death to many
people at once).
